KCER: KIDNEY COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE COALITION

Federal Response Team

Team Leadership: Glenda Payne

Goals: Develop and distribute education material for Federal, State and Local agencies on the needs of ESRD patients in an emergency situation. Develop plans and criteria for the utilization of Federal resources during a disaster.

Accomplishments: An educational piece was developed and distributed to aid Federal, State, and local emergency responders in understanding the particular needs of individuals with kidney failure an the need to plan ahead. Contacts have been identified and phone conferences held with Federal partners to address questions and concerns of Federal partners, and to identify further opportunities for collaboration. CMS has made contractual changes to clarify and enhance the responsibilities of ESRD Networks and strengthened the assistance available through state survey agencies.
